A Friendly Reminder

Your new flooring is made from a natural, evolving material. Real wood develops its own story over time and will reflect the life lived upon it. Small scratches, dents, and color shifts may occur and are part of the evolution of your new wood floors.

“Wood is natural, care includes moisture management.

Wood is a natural product that responds to its environment. It is a hygroscopic material, which means that it will lose or gain moisture until it is in equilibrium with the air surrounding it. In dry conditions, such as during winter months when heating systems are in use, wood floors will shrink, which will result in gaps between floorboards. In wet conditions, such as during summer months when relative humidity is higher, wood floors will swell. This is a normal reaction of wood floors that will occur from season to season. You can minimize these changes in your wood floor by maintaining your home between 60-80 degrees Fahrenheit and 30-50 percent humidity year-round.”

Smart Monitoring for Wood Floors

Smart Monitoring for Wood Floors

PID PULSE: Powered by Wagner Meters is a discreet, sensor-based smart monitoring system for wood floors. It continuously measures temperature and relative humidity - the two critical factors in hardwood flooring performance - and sends alerts to your smartphone, via Bluetooth, when the measurements are out of optimal range. This can help you to take action before any damage occurs.

Why Every Hardwood Flooring Owner Needs PID PULSE

Why Every Hardwood Flooring Owner Needs PID PULSE

Hardwood is a living material. Without consistent temperature and humidity, floors will shrink or swell due to the inconsistent humidity levels, which can result in cupping, buckling, gapping, crowning, endlift, end-swell, delamination, compression-set, and more. This can lead to costly repairs and client frustration.

PID PULSE: Powered by Wagner Meters puts that control in your hands. It’s not just monitoring.
It’s prevention and can help to bring peace of mind.

*You must be within Bluetooth range to receive data and alerts.

HELPS TO PROTECT YOUR HARDWOOD FLOORING INVESTMENT

1,500 SF of new hardwood flooring at $10 per SF, $8 per SF for installation with underlayment, and $5 per SF for demo can be priced at an estimated cost of $27,000 + which does not include the cost of moving furniture, accommodations while the work is taking place, plus all other ancillary costs. Hardwood flooring can react badly to any type of environmental moisture (natural or accidental), heat, and atmospheric humidity and may cause irreparable damage.

To repurchase and reinstall an initial investment of $27,000 worth of flooring and labor can cost $40,000 + to replace.

Hardwood floors are an INVESTMENT.
“Homeowners can recover 118% of the cost of installing a hardwood floor,” according to the National Association of REALTORS. But they can also become a rapidly depreciating asset if not cared for properly. Preventative measures and proactive monitoring can reduce or completely stop the rate of depreciation – making it an investment that will add value to the home for decades.

  • Monitoring helps you to prevent cupping, cracking, and callbacks due to humidity
  • Offers real-time environmental tracking
  • Reduces manufacturing warranty disputes
  • Adds technical credibility with reports of a certified inspector

Without PID PULSE

  • Icebreaker

Increased chance of cracked or cupped floors–with costly surprise repairs (that cost more than initial purchase of new floors.)

  • Risk management

Manufacturer warranty disputes due to being unsure of what exactly caused the issue. Without data, you can’t be sure of the truth, with differing opinions being provided by different parties the installer, contractor, or supplier.

Sustainability & Impact

PID PULSE: Powered by Wagner Meters, plays a crucial role in enhancing the sustainability of hardwood flooring.

Extending the life of wood floors reduces the need for premature replacement, which in turn minimizes the demand for new raw materials and the energy-intensive processes involved in manufacturing and installing new flooring. It also helps keep damaged wood out of landfills, reducing waste, and its associated environmental impact.

Fewer damaged floors = less waste.

In essence, PID PULSE: Powered by Wagner Meters transforms wood flooring into a more sustainable choice by promoting proactive maintenance, preserving natural resources, and supporting long-term durability. In addition to saving other resources like money and time, PULSE helps to increase the initial return on investment for the end user.

We’re striving to help you maximize the useful life of the products we sell. We hope that our customers only and always return to buy material for a new home or project, and never to replace material we’ve supplied that has been damaged by moisture. This contributes to our mission for a more sustainable and environmentally conscious future.

Disclaimers

Wood flooring will perform best when the interior environment is controlled to stay within a Relative Humidity range of 30-50% and a Temperature range 60-80° F. During the winter heating season, Relative Humidity levels plummet and extra care must be taken to maintain an adequate environment for your wood flooring to perform optimally, i.e. without failure.

Nearly every wood floor will have some seasonal separation between the individual boards – this is normal. However, excessive shrinkage from low RH levels can cause more serious, irreparable issues like cracking, cupping, delamination, and even buckling. This can be prevented by using a humidifier during the cold winter months.

The acclimation process for wood flooring is critical to the long-term success of the flooring system. Acclimation is not a specific time of exposure of wood flooring to the environment, but instead achieving moisture content equilibrium of the flooring to the environment in which it will be installed.

The wood flooring must acclimate inside the space under normal living conditions until the moisture content of the wood is in equilibrium with the environment. For proper acclimation, ensure the interior temperature is between 60-80 degrees Fahrenheit, and the relative humidity is between 30-50%.

Equilibrium is typically reached within a few days when these conditions are met. If the wood flooring acclimates under improper conditions, it is much more likely to cause performance or visual issues over time with changing annual conditions.

American Black Walnut is one of the softest hardwood species, as measured by the Janka Hardness Scale, the accepted industry standard for measuring a wood’s hardness and density. Walnut has a Janka Rating of 1010, which is approximately 22% softer than Red Oak, the industry’s benchmark. This may result in more dents from footwear, dropped or dragged items, or other forces of impact.

Extremely hot and humid summer weather is not ideal for hardwood flooring. So, consider this your friendly reminder to turn those air conditioners ON!

Keeping your AC units running throughout this intense heat and humidity is the best way to care for your wood floors! We recommend maintaining a temperature between 60- and 80-degrees Fahrenheit with a relative humidity between 30% and 50%.

Wood flooring performs best in the same conditions within which we are most comfortable.

Wood is a natural product. The wood floor you have purchased will contain numerous natural characteristics, as well as variation in graining and color tones, depending on the Grade of wood purchased. Even in Select grades, variations will occur from plank to plank. In Light Character grade, you will see knots and other natural characteristics, different color tones, and sapwood. In Character and Heavy Character grades, you can expect to see larger knots, cracks, and other natural features, along with unlimited variations and imperfections. No single sample, sample board, or full bundle of material can exhibit the full range of characteristics that an entire floor order will contain.
