Welcome to our new PID Floors video series: BEYOND THE SURFACE, featuring design conversations about inspiration and innovation with the people who endlessly inspire us.

For our 5th Episode, we were excited to chat with brilliant Susan Kaplan, Associate Principal and Director of Materials Technology and Specifications and Sustainability, at the renowned international architecture and design firm, HLW.

Susan Kaplan, CCS, LEED AP BD+C translates her passion for sustainable design into her role as HLW’s Director of Materials Technology. She is responsible for the technical control and production of the architecture, engineering, and site specifications for all our project work. In addition, she has specialized in specifications for sustainable projects. She was a founding board member of HPDC (Health Product Declaration Collaborative) and currently serves on the Technical and Social Equity Sub-committees. Susan teaches graduate sustainable material courses at City University of New York and the Fashion Institute of Technology.
