In 1885, architect Albert Wagner was commissioned to create the landmark building, 295 Lafayette, to house the humorous magazine Puck. Soho's historic "Puck Building" has a facade decorated with red bricks and is an example of Rundbogenstil style, widespread at the end of the nineteenth century. The name of the magazine is inspired by the character of the Shakespearean comedy “A Midsummer Night's Dream” Puck and at the building's entrance there is a cherub statue that recalls the character of the comedy. Over four decades ago, Kushner acquired the Puck Building, a Romanesque Revival mixed-use property, and repositioned the first seven floors into a modern class “A” creative office and retail environment, with penthouse condominiums on top.
